HOSPITALITY
Garage Italia’s headquarter in Milan, located in Piazzale Accursio, stands in a former 1953 Agip garage and station, which became a temple of the automobile in those years and is now revisited as a showroom, restaurant and customization garage.
Nearly 55 years later, the renovation project was overseen by architect Michele De Lucchi, with the aim of evoking the original atmosphere of the machine shop, preserving the building’s original structures and finishes, while projecting into 21st century modernity, with great attention to sustainability.
The contamination of styles and languages, the overcoming of barriers between the worlds of fashion, design and art are the basis of the work carried out by Paolo Castelli S.p.A., which, thanks to the creativity of Lapo Elkann, has completely revised the very concept of “bespoke.”
The furnishings, strictly custom made by Paolo Castelli S.p.A., echo the industrial style and are enriched by fine construction details inspired by the world of cars, boats and airplanes, such as the stair treads made from a cast of tires.
Upon passing through the entrance door, which echoes the original glazing of the 1950s, a huge cloud composed of more than 1,100 model cars suspended over the bar area accompanies visitors to the soul of Garage Italia Custom: the forge of customization projects.
The hub of Garage Italia’s creative hub activity comes to life inside the Materioteca, an inspirational place to touch on the materials available for customizations.
